CIEL Agro-Industry is a cluster of the CIEL
Group operating mainly in the sugar industry sector. Through
Deep River-Beau Champ Limited (DRBC) in Mauritius and
TPC Ltd in Tanzania, CIEL Agro-Industry cultivates sugar
cane on over 11,500 hectares and its sugar production
amounts to 165,000 tonnes annually. Moreover Consolidated
Energy Co. Ltd in Mauritius is also involved in the generation
of electricity from bagasse and coal. In recent years,
CIEL Agro-Industry has been diversifying its activities,
in particular, in real-estate, tourism and ecotourism
development. Group turnover for the year 2011 reached Rs 3.263 million.
Following the drastic price reduction of sugar on the EU market, the Mauritian sugar cane sector is re-adapting its strategy for the sector.
Recognised for its know-how but with relatively high production
costs, the Mauritian sugar industry is re-engineering
to adapt to new market conditions, namely upgrading the
competitiveness of the sugar cane sector and developing
alternative economic activities.
CIEL Agro-Industry is engaged in the EU Sugar Reform with:
 |
A
profound re-thinking of its growing and milling operations. |
 |
The identification
and production of value added products, especially in
the energy and direct consumption sugar fields. |
 |
A regional
expansion in countries, such as Tanzania, having lower
production costs. |
 |
Much impetus to property development in Mauritius. |
